There will probably be a few comments on this story proclaiming that Morrison can't write, doesn't make sense, needs an editor, and drops too much acid. Lots of people don't understand Morrison, think he's just drugged-out and writing nonsense, and they love to make their opinions known. He openly discussed, through his characters and then in interviews, breakups, letdowns, and his own experiences with cross-dressing, which certainly turned a lot of people off. Shortly after King Mob was brainwashed to believe he had necrotizing fasciitis that chewed its way through his cheek, Morrison got a staph infection that nearly chewed its way through his cheek, eventually sending him to the hospital, where he hallucinated Jesus, a scene that appears in volume 1 issue 24. By making it very personal, by intertwining his own life with fiction, he opened a lot of doors that couldn't be closed. (If only there was a euphemism for that.) Morrison took a lot of risks with the comic. It ended up being a blade that is sharp on both sides. Just as the ichthys symbol (or Jesus fish) in Gnosticism represents a higher reality and lower reality intersecting, Morrison appeared to have discovered a meeting place between reality and un-reality, where the two planes came together in a living Venn diagram. Though it's been discussed to death in numerous other blogs, tons of interviews, Morrison's own book, and the Talking With Gods documentary, without a doubt the most fascinating aspect of The Invisibles is the autobiographical one, and the uncanny give-and-take that seemed to exist in a weird conjunction between fiction and reality. The book never got cancelled, and you can't argue with results.) While that may seem like absolute crap to many, it's hard to argue with the fact that some of the ideas he was trying to spread between 19 ended up in The Matrix, several other comicbooks, and at least a small portion of the popular consciousness. (In fact, he started the project with a sigil he charged while bungee-jumping from a bridge in New Zealand when it looked like the series might be cancelled early, Morrison used the letters column to teach readers the art of sigil magic and asked them to participate in a "wank-a-thon" to imbue the book with lasting power. Repeatedly referring to The Invisibles as a "hypersigil," a long-form magical act meant to alter reality in accordance with intent, Morrison was actively trying to make a better world through fiction. Which was essentially what Morrison wanted: to provoke thought, to encourage consciousness-expansion, and to disseminate the types of ideas that he believed might go on to infect and motivate readers.

This sub is a great place to discuss 1Password, password managers, and internet privacy/security in general.ġPassword is the award-winning password manager designed to make your life easier. You should never blindly trust anyone’s scripts, especially when it comes to your security. If you have a set of files that you’d like to keep encrypted, you might consider using TrueCrypt instead to create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a real disk. The handy thing about this script is that (with slight modifications) you can use it to store other documents, images, slide shows, etc., in an encrypted format and still have easy access to editing them. Gpg -e -r "$KEY_RECIPIENT_NAME" -o $PASSWD_LIST $PASSWD_LIST_UNENCRYPTED $EDITOR $PASSWD_LIST_UNENCRYPTED 2> /dev/null The final line removes the unencrypted version of the file: The script then waits for the editor to terminate (you close the editor when you are finished) and the next line encrypts the password again. The next line opens the unencrypted password file in the user’s default editor. I use the cat command to send password from the file to gpg, and use the -passphrase-fd 0 parameter to tell gpg that the password is being given via standard in:Ĭat $TEMPFILE | gpg -d -r "$KEY_RECIPIENT_NAME" -o $PASSWD_LIST_UNENCRYPTED -passphrase-fd 0 $PASSWD_LIST &> /dev/null The next important line in the script is where the password file is decrypted. TEMPFILE=`tempfile 2>/dev/null` || TEMPFILE=/tmp/`basename $0`.tmpĭialog -backtitle "Password Database" -title "Master Password" -clear -insecure -passwordbox "Enter the Password Database master password." 10 51 2> $TEMPFILE The return value is 0 if the “Ok” button was pressed, 1 if the “Cancel” button was pressed, and -1 if an error occurred or the “Esc” key was pressed (as the dialog man page specifies, most shell scripts can’t distinguish between -1 and 255, so the script uses the more standard 255). The dialog command uses the return value to inform you whether the user selected the “Ok” button, the “Cancel” button or the program had an error. The last line uses dialog to prompt the user for the GnuPG password and redirects dialog’s standard error, which provides the actual text that the user typed, to the tempfile that the script created. The next line ensures that no matter how the script exits, the temporary file gets deleted. The first line creates a suitable temporary file name using the command tempfile. Now that I had my GnuPG key generated and an encrypted version of my passwords file, I could create my password script. Finally, I needed to delete the unencrypted version of the passwords file. Next, I ran the command gpg -e -r "Duane Odom" passwords, which encrypted the text file to another file named passwords.gpg using the recipient “Duane Odom” (the “Real Name” that I typed in while generating my key). I created a text file called passwords, typed in some URLs and passwords, and saved the file. Once I successfully generated my key, I needed to create a password file and encrypt it. The only other important thing about the questions that followed was that I needed to remember what I typed when prompted for the “Real Name,” because it is used when you encrypt. Some keys were labeled “sign only,” but I needed to use my key to encrypt data, so I selected “DSA and Elgamal” (which wasn’t marked sign only). I was prompted for the type of key I wanted to generate. Both applications are available as binary packages on Debian-based systems.įirst, I had to create an encryption key using the command gpg -gen-key. GnuPG is a free implementation of the OpenPGP standard. When the editor is closed, the script re-encrypts the password file.ĭialog is an ncurses-based utility for providing text-based message and input boxes. The script prompts the user for a master password using a dialog box, unencrypts a file that holds a list of passwords, and opens the file in a text editor. To keep them straight, I wrote a simple password security script using dialog and GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard). Like many people, I have too many passwords to remember. Multiple versions on the market that aren’t compatible Length: 50 feet (25 feet x 2 pieces) | Lumens/Foot: Not listed | LEDs/Foot: Not listed | Controls: Remote control︱ Voltage: 12 volts︱ Power Source: Wall outlet (power adapter included) You can’t control the strips with a phone app or your smart home speaker, and TJOY doesn’t provide some key information, like exactly how bright the strips are, but you have to expect some cut corners to get a value this good. These strips use super bright 5050 LEDs, come with a power adapter, and include a remote that lets you set a specific color or access a handful of programs like flashing or gradually changing colors. The stripped-down TJOY lights are a little light on features, such as app control, but you can’t beat the value. When you look at the cost per foot for these strip lights, many of our top recommendations are as much as 10 times more expensive. TJOY LED Strip Lights provide the best value if you’re working on a tight budget. Length: 9.8 feet︱ Lumens/Foot: Not listed | LEDs/Foot: 22 | Controls: Remote, app, Google Home, Alexa︱ Voltage: 24 volts︱ Power Source: Wall outlet (adapter included) The white and warm white LEDs can be difficult to manipulate using smart home voice controls, but you can always fall back on using the app if you experience any issues. Smart home integration also allows you to set the strips to come on or switch color at specific times of the day or based on other triggers. These strips also offer versatile controls, including Wi-Fi connectivity, a smartphone app, and the option to control them with your Amazon Echo/Alexa or Google Home speaker. So if you’re looking for some colorful mood lighting, the RGB LEDs do the heavy lifting, but if you want more natural, warm light, the white LEDs switch on. Strips with this configuration include alternating RGB, white, and warm-white LEDs. That means you’ll probably still have to rely on your traditional lighting in some situations, but you might be surprised at how little you reach for the light switch.Īside from the great value, the best thing about Govee Smart Wi-Fi RGBWW LED Strip Lights is the flexibility you get with RGBWW LEDs. These light strips come in a 9.8-foot length and put out more than enough brightness for mood lighting while being right on the edge for functional lighting. These strips are bright enough to use in the kitchen or living room, but the built-in dimmer and RGB (red, green, and blue) lighting options make them a decent choice for bedrooms. The Govee Smart Wi-Fi RGBWW LED Strip Lights is our top pick overall for the best LED light strip because it has all of the features needed to work just about anywhere in your home. Govee is well known for feature-packed LED lighting at affordable prices.
